Dental and oral care after prosthetics

Are there any features of caring for the oral cavity and teeth after prosthetics were performed in the absence of teeth? The doctor teaches the care of removable prostheses of the patient and, in most cases, there are no problems with him. But fixed prostheses require careful and regular care, which, however, practically does not differ from that with real teeth.

It is important to remember: the life of a fixed prosthesis and the condition of the remaining teeth depend on the quality of cleaning of dentures – both crowns and attachment points. One of the problems of irregular, poor-quality care may be the increased sensitivity of the gums due to their infection, their bleeding, which in the end can lead to the loss of supporting teeth, which means loss of the prosthesis. An important problem is the smell. Poorly brushed teeth, dentures create a lot of problems with bad breath, which is more difficult to eliminate if the condition of the oral cavity is severely neglected.

To care for prosthetic teeth (and teeth in general), you will need the most ordinary toothpaste (preferably medical or therapeutic), a high-quality toothbrush with a bristle of sufficient length and floss – dental floss. Everything is as usual: a brush with paste cleans the surface of the teeth and tongue, massages the gums, removes plaque, destroys microorganisms. Dental floss will help to cope with the cleaning of the interdental spaces from food debris, plaque. It is a good idea to make a habit of using mouthwash – they will help maintain the hygiene of the teeth and dentures between cleansings.

Does the frequency and intensity of procedures change after prosthetics? In general, no changes will be required. Perhaps, at the first time after prosthetics, the doctor may advise you to brush your teeth not two (in the morning and in the evening), but three times, on average, for one to two months after prosthetics. Then you can return to normal mode.

Floss should be used during morning and evening toothbrushing, as well as after eating. In general, it is recommended to finish the meal by rinsing the mouth, especially if the environment of the food components was food or drinks are sweet, high in sugar. If the rinse aid is unavailable, you can always use clean drinking water – it will wash away food residues on the teeth no less effectively, and prevent plaque from forming.

The variety of materials and methods in modern orthopedic dentistry is amazing. These are ceramics and cermets, metal alloys and composite materials. Widely used programs of 3D modeling, software calculations.
