Clasp prosthetics with clasps
With partial tooth loss, an expensive implant placement procedure can be dispensed with. Removable dentures are more affordable and qualitatively restore the integrity of the dentition. In addition to savings, factors such as wearing comfort, safety and reliability of the design, and long service life remain important. Clasp prosthetics on clasps meet all these conditions.
By design, the clasp prosthesis is an arc cast from a durable alloy based on titanium, chromium or acetal. This frame is the basis for the nylon layer that simulates the gum, as well as the crowns installed on it. The prosthesis is attached to the surviving healthy teeth with the help of special metal hooks – clasps. The whole structure is distinguished by the following advantages:
the clasp type of attachment allows you to securely fix the prosthesis (the presence of healthy teeth for support is required);
fixation based on teeth evenly distributes the load on the jaw when performing chewing movements – this will not only prevent negative effects, but can also stop the development of existing diseases, positively affect the bite;
convenient operation – the prosthesis is comfortably located on the gum due to the elastic base;
there is no need to remove the structure during sleep;
reduced risk of bone atrophy;
general view of the prosthesis imitates the natural appearance of the dentition;
low cost in comparison with other methods of prosthetics.
There are also disadvantages – the metal frame gives the corresponding aftertaste in the mouth, and clasps are noticeable during a conversation. It also takes a long time to get used to the prosthesis, cases of rubbing the mucosa with clasps are not uncommon. It should be noted that the clasp prosthesis will be fixed the better, the less teeth are missing – with significant loss of teeth, the structure will need to be constantly adjusted, and its cost will turn out to be high.
When ordering a clasp prosthesis on clasps, the patient goes through the following steps:
Consultation and examination at the dentist – the patient is provided with complete information about all the features of prosthetics. A thorough examination of the dentition and oral cavity is carried out to identify contraindications and diseases. A list of necessary preparatory operations is being compiled.
The preparation of the jaw is carried out – this stage can take a long time. Before starting work, it is necessary to heal the revealed diseases, inflammations, caries, if necessary, destroyed teeth are removed. The abutment teeth on which the clasps will be attached are subjected to special treatment – they are grind and closed with crowns to protect them from abrasion under pressure from the hooks.
Precise measurements are made for the manufacture of the prosthesis design. Imprints of the teeth are made to determine the exact position and bite. The color of the future base and crowns is also determined.
In the laboratory, parts of the prosthesis are made and assembled – a metal frame is cast, covered with a nylon base, crowns are made and fastened taking into account casts of the jaw. The size of the teeth and their position is finally specified when trying on and fitting.
After completing work on the prosthesis, it is placed on the abutment teeth.
When wearing the clasp prosthesis on the clasps, proper care is of great importance – it is necessary to remove the structure daily and clean from food particles and plaque. The cleaning procedure is carried out using a conventional toothbrush and toothpaste. Regular visits to the dentist are also required to examine the prosthesis, correct its position, and adjust if necessary. With proper care of the prosthesis, it will last a long time – at least five years.
